HOLIDAY COTTAGE with HOT TUB

Gorwel

On the Llyn Peninsula, near Pwllheli,

 in beautiful North West Wales

Walking & Climbing

The famous Welsh Coastal Path follows the coast around the Llyn and there are many beautiful walks. There are 2 walking books in the cottage and click here for further walking information.

If you want to learn to climb there is no better place than Plas y Brenin  or Snowdonia Climbing in the heart of Snowdonia. Courses to suit all skill levels.

Or there is always the ultimate challenge  - to walk up Snowdon - or you can take the train!

The National Trust properties of  Plas Yn Rhiw on the peninsula, Plas Newydd on Anglesey and Bodnant Gardens near Conwy are well worth a visit

There are some  excellent mines to explore in the area. Llechwedd at Blaenau Ffestiniog is a must with a wonderful underground train journey. There is also a zip wire and a large underground trampoline area called Bounce Below for those adrenaline junkies. Learn about the Slate industry. A brilliant day out.

Another good experience is the Sygun copper mine at Beddgelert. The town itself is also a very pretty place to visit.

Another brilliant outing is at the Electric Mountain in Llanberis. An underground tour by bus of the hidden hydro-electric power station - a real feat of engineering, with interest for all the family.

The unique Italianate village  just outside Porthmadog, with wonderful buildings brought from all over the world and rebuilt in this wonderful village by the visionary architect Clough Williams Ellis. The gardens and woodland walks are fabulous - even a train to take you round. Many cafes, shops and galleries to keep you enthralled. Fine dine in the prestigious Portmeirion Hotel. This is a day out to remember. It was also the setting for the  60's TV series ‘The Prisoner’ for which there is also an exhibition. Home of the famous Portmeirion Pottery

Pwllheli is a traditional market town with a Wednesday market and an additional Sunday market in season. There are 4 supermarkets, Lidl, Spar, Iceland and Asda, and many other clothing and gift shops.

Abersoch is always a good place to visit with its many boutiques and national chains such as White Stuff, Fat Face, and Crew.

Porthmadog is also well blessed with interesting shops, as is the beautiful Betws Y Coed.

The major towns of Caernarfon & Bangor are within 30 miles.

Not 4 m from Gorwel is Glasfryn Park - an activity centre where you can go ten pin bowling, Go-Karting, Quad biking, Archery, Ice Skating, Wakeboarding and lots of other stuff - great fun.

If you fancy something a bit more adrenalin pumping try Kayaking, coasteering, or gorge walking try North Wales Active.

Just 1 m away is the superb High Ropes course  at Hafan Y Mor, a real fun trip for kids and adults alike. There is also the longest Zip Wire in UK at Zip World in Snowdonia - a real adrenalin rush ! (I’ve done this - it’s brilliant). There is also Greenwood Forest Park - another children's activity centre.
